Emergency money. During the German hyperinflation, several cities like Vohwinkel in Wuppertal issued their own bank notes.

500 million German Marks may sound like a lot, but the prices at that time (15^th October 1923) are listed in the margins: A pound of salt: 42 millions, one egg: 75 millions, one liter of milk: 152 millions, a death certificate by a doctor ("ein ärtzl. Totenschein") was 600,000,000 Mark, while a coffin would cost you 90 of these nifty 500,000,000 Mark notes ("ein Sarg 45 Milliarden"). There's a larger version here: Finanzen Totentanz.
