Der Finanzen Totentanz: 5,000,000,000,000

A little more than a month after the previous bank notes, this five million million note was issued (European "billion" = UK/US "trillion").
In the margin was a comparison of prices between July 1914 and November 30^th 1923. For instance: a pound of sugar was up from 22 Pfennig to 650 thousand million Marks, one liter milk from 20 pfenning to 560 thousand million Marks. And if you think the cost of living was high, then the price of a coffin had gone up from 80 Marks to 90 million millions - i.e. 18 of these 5.000.000.000.000 Marks banknotes.

The bill included a poem by Goethe. Not "Der Todtentanz" as one might think, but "Xenien", praising the USA: "America, you have it better, than our continent, the old one […]". There's a larger version here: Finanzen Totentanz.
