Vesalius A | Vesalius D |
Initial letter from the 1543 edition of De Fabrica by Vesalius. Grown men (as opposed to 1555 edition) are carrying a corpse in a perforated coffin. The coffin is to be placed in a stream of water to remove soft tissue from the skeleton. This colourized version emphasizes how a white skeletal arm protrudes from the coffin. There's a larger version here: Vesalius C.
