Rethel: Death goes to Copenhagen

Rethel #2 Tallinn / Lübeck

Counterrevolutionary dance of death by an unknown artist after Alfred Rethel.

Death uses the scales to prove that the Danish Constitution does not hold more weight than the Holstein Constitution. Nobody notices that Death holds the scales by the pointer instead of by the ring. The man with his back to the reader resembles King Frederik VII, who signed the Constitution in 1849. A boy has crossed out the words "Freedom, equality, brotherhood". There's a larger version here: Rethel #3.
