Hollar: The Dance of Death, 1818

Hollar 1816 Hollar 1853

Dugdale's History of Saint Paul's Cathedral was re-issued in 1818 by Henry Ellis. For this edition it was necessary to re-engrave all of Hollar's plates. This was done by William Finden, who did a careful job, but who did not copy the dedications and heraldic arms that no longer were relevant to the audience.
The interesting part is that Finden has not copied the version of the dance of death procession that had been printed several times between 1790 and 1816, but instead has copied Hollar's original etching from 1658. There's a larger version here: Hollar 1818.
