Liebig's Extract of Meat Company

Cardinal Usurer

On this 19th century trading card Holbein presents his dance of death to Henry VIII. The king's wife seems to be uneasy while Holbein holds Death and the queen; at the top of the pile is Death and the empress. Presumably they are sketches for decorating the castle at Whitehall.
For details about the (hypothetical) dance at Whitehall, see The Dead Dance by T. Nieuhoff Piccard.
