The painter and his wife and son. This woodcut was originally published by Huldrich Frölich in 1588 and was one of the very few that actually showed a scene from Basel's dance of death. The painter and his family were placed on the same woodcut, which was then used twice. The woodcut is signed (under the table top) with HIW and a woodcarver's knife.
