The danger of a careless glimpse. By Jan David, 1601. The eyes are the doorway to the soul, and a careless glimpse may give Death an opportunity to enter. In the background are three biblical women who (supposedly) got into trouble from an incautious glance: Eve with the apple, Bathsheba in the bath and Dinah in Shechem (Genesis 34).
