Mors de la Pomme, Cain and Abel
Cain and Abel
|
After having shown her authorization, Death begins her work.
The first victim is — logically enough — Abel: The first human ever to die.
The picture shows Cain with a donkey's jaw in his hand, but the Bible does not say which weapon he used.
It was Samson, not Abel, who killed 1,000 men with a new jawbone of an ass
(Judges 15:15-17).
Judges 15:15, And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.
Judges 15:16, And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.
Judges 15:17, And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramathlehi.
Death
Everyone, be on their guard.
My office will begin
with the dart of blood. The first to sting
152
to further advance my work.
|
The three darts are not — as is usual — named pestilence, war and famine.
The first arrow is Blood, presumably signifying violent deaths in general
(Genesis 4:10),
and not the specific case of being killed "by one's own blood".
Genesis 4:10, And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
