After the three living and the three dead it's time for the men. As shown by the picture to the right, there are two dancers per page: A portrait-format picture of an ecclesiastical (here: the pope) and a landscape-format picture of a lay person (here: the emperor).
Most of the time the men's dance follows the same sequence as the other Danse Macabre manuscripts, although there are a few changes in the titles. Towards the end there's a pilgrim instead of the usual clerk and hermit. The pilgrim is not normally a participant in the original Danse Macabre, he was added in the printed version from 1486.
The texts are very short, and one can sometimes sense an "echo" of the Danse Macabre, but it's a very free (and short) interpretation. Only the first line of the dance, »dam pape vous commenceres«, and the last line, »Aussy toust meurt / Ieune que vieulx«, are direct quotations from the Danse Macabre.
The danse starts with an original scene showing Jesus arming Death with a handful of darts to be used for destroying mankind (just like in Le Mors de la Pomme). Then the dance is introduced by an authority, just like in the "proper" dances of death.
