The Old Woman

Allaert Claesz 1562
AC (Allaert Claesz) 1562

D eath plays a xylophone that seems to be made out of bones. The hourglass is broken. The picture has obviously inspired Allaert Claesz (picture to the right).

Variations: Birckmann replaces the long stalks with trees and adds a village in the background.
