    Death
Scribe, you have written workdays and holidays
and thus accomplished [only] little.
For a bit of writing you have taken a lot of money;
This does not do much good for you with God.
Write a document against Death;
if you can, you will need it,
[for] God will not tolerate your lechery anymore.
Come forward, this here's your last day.

    Der schriber
WAnnen kůmstu du vntzijdiger gast
Du bist mynem hertzen eyn swerer last
Eyn frijhe leben hain ich bijß her gefuret
Geringe gewonnen bald verdoret
Das han ich alle tzijt allso gehalten
Vnd gar kleyn gesorget den alten
Mocht ich aber tzijt gewynnen
Ich wollt myn leben baß besynnen.

    The Scribe.
Where do you come from, you inconvenient guest?
You are my heart a heavy burden.
I have led a free life so far:
won a little, quickly dried out,
this is how I have kept it at all times
and [I] worried very little about [old] age
But if I may win [more] time,
I would think better of my life.
