    Death
Mr. Pope, you must begin this dance.
Everyone get in front, who has won honour.
You ruled over the whole world,
now you have come into death['s power].
Your reign now has an end.
You have come into my hand.
Go forward, and be not afraid.
Here shall you lie, until Gods wakes you up.

    The Pope
Oh God, shall I, and must it happen,
that I shall end my life?
I was called God on earth,
and everybody recognized me as the highest.
Has my life now been blameworthy,
[then] God's goodness will forgive me.
I have owned Saint Peter's chair.(1)
God will not forget my soul.

The Pope's words are reminiscent of the Pope in Basel:

Doten dantz mit figurenBasel

Got was ich off erden genant
Vnd allen mentschen der hogst bekant.

HEilig war ich auff Erd genandt,
Ohn GOtt der höchst führt ich mein Stand:
