Schröer calls Kruspe's drawing (right): "zweifellos unvollständig" i.e. undoubtedly incomplete, but it matches Götz's watercolour (above) perfectly.
The dialogue is the same as in Lübeck: Death to the mayor.
Der Tod zum Bürgermeister: |
Der Bürgermeister: |
Our two oldest sources, Götz and Pohle, have a different text. Death's last two lines go: »Der sich gemeiner Stadt mit Treu hat angenommen / Der soll im duncklen Reich sein Bürgerrecht bekommen«.
In this variant, "Bürgerrecht" has been used by Death, but on the other hand the word does not appear in the mayor's answer, The two instances of "Bürgerrecht" are instead "Bürger Wohl" and "Bürger-Kron'" respectively.
