The king stands with his sceptre and crown and is wearing extremely comfortable shoes.

Death apes the king and wears a crown and a mantle. This recalls the story about the three dead kings and the three living: "What you are, we were; what we are, you will become". It looks as is Death is stepping on the king's foot.
