Death to the musician

    Zuem Spihlmann.

Mit deiner schallmeyen thue jetz schweigen,
ein hopper tantz dir ich will geigen,
ja unser spill wär gar nit gantz,
wan du nit wärest bey unserem tantz.

    To the Musician.

Be silent now with your shawn.
I want to fiddle a hopping dance for you.(1)
Yes, our play wouldn't be complete
if you weren't at our dance.

The musician

    Antwort.

Dein Tanz geht fort ja ohne mich,
Laß gehen mich, ich bitte Dich.
Dabei aufzuspielen hab ich nicht Zeit.
Auf mich warten ganz andere Leut.

    Answer.

Your dance continues without me,
Let me go, I beg you.
I don't have time to play.
Completely different people are waiting for me.

Basel, The musician
Büchel, Musician

The image of the musician is a copy of the musician in Basel, and so are parts of the text. In Basel, Death says: »Mein Kirbehans, Spiel wär nicht gantz, Wärst du auch nicht an diesem Tantz« ("my carnival-Hans. The play wouldn't be complete if you too were not in this dance").

Footnotes: (1)

»hopper tantz . . .:« Wilhelm Fladt explains this as: "Dance with jumping movements, formerly common in the Black Forest.".
