Pope, earthly father, follow after me
and see how beautifully I now walk in front of you.
You have stood in God's stead -
therefore shall you go before the dance.
Step in now and sing quickly,
and don't make any delays.

The pope

Och dot derbarme dy nu over my

....wol byn ik eyn erdesche man gew(esen)
....kan ik des dodes nicht ge(nesen)

Oh Death, have mercy upon me.
.........well that I am a human being
....well that I have been an earthly man
.......can I not escape Death
................................
Help now, Jesus................

Notice that the pope's Death is the only one who is naked.

Death promises the pope that he may lead the dance, as he does in most dances of death. Apparently death has forgotten that in Berlin the pope is the last ecclesiastical dancer, and that Death has already promised this dance to the sacristan.
