I am so cruel and various
that when it pleases me, all of a sudden
I knock strength and beauty to the ground.
It’s useless to argue against me.

Vie de l'Homme
Hardouyn, Soldiers

Note: The text is a transcription of "Ces presentes heures a lusaige de Lion toutes" from ca. 1513, but this particular exemplar has the oddity that the column with the scenes #17 and #18 has been moved between #22 and #23. The archbishop has also been moved around in the Danse Macabre.

Pictured left is Accident piercing Sir Gawain, knight of the Round Table. In the background, a man slips away with a spear.

In Harouyn's picture, the man with the spear is moved to the foreground.
